The UNISA 1st Year Law Modules 2025/2026
First level
RULES ON NQF LEVEL 5:
1. Students who passed accepted language modules in Afrikaans and English at NQF Level 5 for this qualification, will retain credit towards the completion of the LLB and need not register for the Skills Course for Law Students (SCL1501). This does not mean the modules are equivalent.
2. Students who have passed ENN106J or SCL1502 for this qualification, may not register for IRM1501. This does not mean the modules are equivalent.
3. Students who has passed SCL1502 or ENN106J shall be exempted from doing IRM1501.
4. Students who have passed FLS1501 AND FLS1502 shall be exempted from HLF1501 and
PLS1502. Students who have passed FLS1501 or FLS1502 shall be required to register for
HFL1501, but do not have to register for PLS1502.
5. Students who has passed SCL1502 or ENN106J shall be exempted from doing IRM1501.
6. Students who have passed CRW101U or EUP1501 for this qualification, do not need to register for SJD1501. This does not mean the modules are equivalent.
7. Students who passed 2 ILW and 2 IND modules shall be exempted from doing FAC1503.
8. Students who passed only IND201V or IND202W for this qualification, retain credit for the module passed and must not register for IND2601 but must register for FAC1503.
9. Students who have passed only one language module must register for the Skills Course for Law Students (SCL1501). This does not mean the modules are equivalent.
10. LLB degree comprises of 40 modules: 37 compulsory modules and 3 optional modules.
11. Students must take Introduction to Law (ILW1501) and Skills Course for Law Students (SCL1501) in their first year of registration.
12. The rules from 2018 onwards are presented per NQF level below.
13. The minimum duration is 4 years.

- FAC1503 – Financial Accounting Principles for Law Practitioners
- HFL1501 – Historical Foundations of South African Law
- ILW1501 – Introduction to Law
- IRM1501 – Introduction to Research Methodology for Law and Criminal Justice
- PLS1502 – Introduction to African Philosophy
- PVL1501 – Law of Persons
- SCL1501 – Skills Course for Law Students
- SJD1501 – Social Dimensions of Justice
Group B: Choose ONE of the following non-law modules at NQF level 5
- CMY1501 – Introduction to Criminology: Crime, Offenders and Criminal Behaviour
- CMY1502 – Introduction to Criminology: Victims and Reduction of Crime
- LIN1502 – Multilingualism: the Role of Language in the South African Context
