In September, the University Management Committee approved a preliminary revision of the merit bursaries that may be paid to senior students in 2025. The preliminary charges were included in the Payable Fees booklet that has been published on the NWU website. Covid-19 has a serious impact on the financial stability of the university, and as such various measures had to be put in place to ensure that we remain within the budget allocated for merit bursaries, as well as within the broader university budget.

North-West University Undergraduate Bursaries
NSFAS Funding | The object of the NSFAS loan scheme is to provide financial aid to students who have academic potential but lack the necessary funds to study. NSFAS application forms are available online only. Closing date 30 November. |
Funza Lushaka Teaching Bursary | This bursary is awarded to students who are South African citizens with at least one of the following priority area specialization subjects included in the qualification:

How do I apply?
- The academic record attached should be the FINAL RECORD of the preceding degree with a PASS result.
- Apply irrespective if you have been approved by the faculty. If declined by the faculty, the bursary will be cancelled.

Who applies online?
- Current NWU students who were accepted for honours studies at the NWU in 2025.
- Students from other Universities who were accepted for honours studies at the NWU in 2025. Students need to attach an academic record of the preceding qualifying degree.

Masters & Masters Progress*

FIRST YEAR of the Master’s degree
Students from other universities must attach the academic script of the preceding qualifying degree
SECOND YEAR and onwards of the Master’s degree
Note to all students:
- If you did not previously receive a Masters bursary, you must attach the Progress Report AND the academic script of the preceding qualifying degree
- Incomplete applications are invalid and may lead to disapproval of the application
- All fields are compulsory
- The academic report and/or the progress report attachment must be only ONE pdf document (all records scanned on one file). Also, no attachments send separately by e-mail will be accepted.

SECOND YEAR and onwards of the Doctoral degree
Students from the SECOND YEAR of the degree apply for a Progress Bursary. Attach this prescribed Progress Report Template – to be completed by your Study Leader.
Note to all students:

B NWU Postgraduate Academic Merit Bursary
APPLICATION FORM: Academic Merit**
**Students from other Universities: These students must apply annually on the prescribed application form. This bursary is automatically calculated for North-West University students only.
The NWU Postgraduate Bursary and Academic Merit Bursary are two separate bursaries.

EWSETA Bursary
Applications are for 2025 academic year. Closing date is 31st January 2025.

- Read carefully before completing, signing and submitting this form.
- Ensure that the Bursary form is completed in full.
- Complete in Block Letters.
- Ensure that the form is duly signed.
- Application forms with incomplete information will not be considered.
- An application forms with incorrect information will lead to your application being disqualified.
EWSETA BURSARY COVERS THE FOLLOWING:
- Tuition fees – Statement of Account
- Books and Stationery from approved university/TVET College bookstores – Supported by university/TVET textbooks and stationery list
- Accommodation – accredited with University/TVET College
- Meals
NB: Authentic supporting documents will be required to be submitted to EWSETA these are used as evidence of costs to facilitate payment.
CRITERIA
Applicants need to meet the following criteria in order to be considered for the bursary:
- Must be in possession of matriculation certificate or equivalent (first-year university or TVET College students) and previous results/academic records for second-and third-year students
- Relevant qualification prerequisite for postgraduate applicants
- Preference will be given to South African citizens from previously disadvantaged communities (youth, black, women and people with disabilities)
- Proof of household annual income.
- A certified copy of a valid matriculation certificate or qualifications (mandatory for all relevant applicants)
- A certified copy of the identity document (mandatory)
- If currently studying, full academic records must be attached (mandatory for all relevant applicants)
- For first time applicants attach a copy of proof of application and/or provisional acceptance letter offer from university/TVET College (The EWSETA notes that these may not be available at the time of application, however, it will be required as part of the key application process)
- Any other information and/or documentation requested by EWSETA in support of the application
- Closing date for all applications is 25 September 2020.
- Authentic supporting documents will be required to be submitted to EWSETA these are used to validate applications

Gauteng City-Region Academy (GCRA) 2025 BursaryApplications
- Students who completed matric and reside in Gauteng –proof of residence required.
- Students intending to study an undergraduate programme and have been accepted at an accredited PSET institution of learning and/or are currently registered for such.
- Students who want to pursue Post-Graduate studies have been accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning.
- Top Achievers from Gauteng schools
- Top 3 learners from no-fee paying schools in Gauteng
- Top 3 learners from LSEN schools in Gauteng
- A South African citizen
- Youth residing in Gauteng between the ages of 18 to 35 years
Key requirements:
- Certified copy of South African ID (by birth)
- Proof of Gauteng residence
- Matric certificate and or latest academic results (certified)
- Proof of income from parent/s or guardian/s or affidavit
- Letter of motivation (not more than 2 pages)
- Proof of registration or acceptance letter from PSET institution
- Disability/ medical report (where applicable)
