About the Sugar Industry Trust Fund for Education: The Sugar Industry Trust Fund for Education (SITFE) was founded as a private sector initiative in the year 1965, and is currently one of South Africa’s oldest Trust Funds. The SITFE’s main aim is to promote and support high quality, sustainable education within the sugarcane growing areas of South Africa. Since its inception, the organisation has provided support for a range of educational programmes and projects, from bursaries; to arts and culture; teacher development and infrastructure development. Bursaries have been allocated to more than 10 200 learners, as well as funding for school building projects, and tertiary institution financial support for working alongside specialist educational organizations.

Field of Study

  • Agriculture Diploma at Owen Sithole College of Agriculture or Cedara College of Agriculture.

Sugar Industry Trust Fund for Education Bursary Application Requirements

  • South African citizen
  • Completed Matric OR currently in Matric
  • From one of the sugarcane growing provinces (Mpumalanga or KwaZulu-Natal)
  • Applied or registered to study for an Agriculture Diploma
  • Applied or registered to study at one of the following institutions: Owen Sithole College of Agriculture / Cedara College of Agriculture
  • Preference will be given to disadvantaged students, as well as first-year students from sugarcane growing areas

Sugar Industry Trust Fund for Education Bursary Application Procedures

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Grade 11 final results (certified copy)
  • Matric mid-year results (certified copy)
  • Matric trial/ prelim results, if available (certified copy)
  • Matric final results, if available (certified copy)
  • Tertiary full academic record, if at tertiary level (certified copy)
  • Proof of your connection to the sugar industry, if applicable
  • Proof of family income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed/ pension receipts if retired/ death certificate if deceased) (certified copies)
  • Proof of your application/ registration at a College of Agriculture
