Parktown High School for Girls Admission Procedure for Grade 8’s 2024

ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR GRADE 8’S 2024:

Online applications for Grade 8 2024 learner admission will open on 25 June 2020 at 08h00 and closes on 25 July 2020 at 24h00.

Application for admission to Grade 8 at Parktown High School for Girls will take place online via the Gauteng Department of Education’s e-application portal. In addition, we request that you complete the Parent Information Form, which can be downloaded from the website and email to the school via documents@parktowngirls.co.za.

Applications may only be submitted during the official application period.

No walk-in applications will be permitted at the school due to Covid-19 regulations.

SUBMISSION OF SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS

Once the application has been successfully submitted via the GDE portal, parents will receive a waiting list number.
Due to Covid-19, parents will be able to UPLOAD supporting documents via the GDE application portal.
If parents experience difficulty with uploading the documents, certified copies may be emailed to the school via documents@parktowngirls.co.za. (This address will only be active once admissions open on 25 June)
All emails must include your daughter/ward’s name as well as the GDE waiting list number issued by the GDE once the online application has been completed.

Please do not email supporting documentation if an application has not been completed online. The email will be deleted.

The following documents are required at PARKTOWN HIGH SCHOOL FOR GIRLS within 7 SCHOOL days of applying:

SOUTH AFRICAN CITIZENS:

The GDE waiting list number is confirmation of your online application.
A CERTIFIED copy of your daughter/ward’s UNABRIDGED (full) birth certificate which reflects both biological parents details on it. If an unabridged certificate is unavailable, a copy of your daughter/ward’s abridged birth certificate may be submitted in the interim.
CERTIFIED copies of both biological parents’ ID documents (death certificate if a parent is deceased).
A CERTIFIED copy of your daughter/ward’s latest report.
Proof of permanent residential address (current COJ rates account if you own the property. If renting, provide the full lease agreement, copy of the lessor’s ID document and a copy of the current COJ rates account/Body Corporate rates statement).
Proof of employment physical address (if you used your work address for the online application)

NON-SOUTH AFRICAN CITIZENS:

The GDE waiting list number is confirmation of your online application.
A CERTIFIED copy of your daughter/ward’s birth certificate
A CERTIFIED copy of your daughter/ward’s valid passport
A CERTIFIED copy of your daughter/ward’s a valid study permit
CERTIFIED copies of both Parent/Legal Guardian’s valid passport
CERTIFIED copies of official permanent residence and study permit documents; diplomats to submit copies of passports and diplomatic identities.
Proof of permanent residential address (current COJ rates account if you own the property. If renting, provide the full lease agreement, copy of the lessor’s ID document and a copy of the current COJ rates account/Body Corporate rates statement).

In terms of the GDE rules, placement will be based on the date and time of the ONLINE application and executed in the following order:

All learners who LIVE in the Feeder Zone of the School
All learners who have Siblings currently at the School OR who currently attend one of the School’s Feeder Schools
All learners whose parents/legal guardians (as recognised by SA law) WORK in the Feeder Zone of the School
Everybody else

You will receive offers from schools at which your application has been successful, and you will be required to accept one of these offers. If you have not received an offer from a school at which you applied then your application was not successful at that particular school: Timeframe for acceptance will be advised once information is received from the GDE.

ADMISSION POLICY

The language of instruction at the school is English with the obvious exception of other languages offered as additional languages. It is in the best interests of the pupil that they are able to cope in an English medium environment.

Priority will be given to pupils whose parents/legal guardians (as recognised by SA law):

comply in full with the Admission Procedure, submitting all documentation on time, AND
who permanently reside in the area for which the School is the nearest suitable school.

If space permits, following the application of the above criteria, preference will be given to pupils who:

have specialised skills or talents that the school has the potential to develop, or
who have the strong academic ability to be able to cope with the high standards expected at the school,

are able to cope in a traditional girl’s school environment.

Preference will also be given to those who:

have siblings who are either at the school or who are Old Girls of the school, or
have a Mother who is an Old Girl from the school.

APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

The School Governing Body has resolved that the Headmistress will administer and decide on admission in accordance with the SGB admissions policy.
The residential address should be that of the parent or legal guardian. If the guardian is not the biological parent, proof of legal guardianship (as recognised by SA law), including a commitment to pay school fees, must accompany the application. The applicant must permanently reside at that address.
Should the School become aware of any fraudulent documentation or information submitted, the application will be immediately disqualified and will not be considered.
