About the National Arts Council: The National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC) was established via an act of parliament in 1997 with the aim of promoting the free expression of cultures in South Africa, through arts. Managed by the South African Department of Arts and Culture, the NAC are responsible for the country’s creative industry development, by way of grant awards to the arts faculty. The Council is one of the major funding bodies for artists in the country.

  •  Block Institutional bursaries – for Undergraduate studies
    These bursaries must be applied for by Institutional heads of departments, for their undergraduate students. Applications received from the student directly will not be considered.
  •  Individual bursaries – for Postgraduate studies
    Students must apply directly to the NAC.
