About the Department of Military Veterans: The Department of Military Veterans is the governmental department in South Africa responsible for providing South African military veterans with support and services. The current political head of the department is Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula – the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans.

Department of Military Veterans Bursary Application Requirements
- South African citizen
- A military veteran OR a dependant of a military veteran
- Registered on the DMV Database (essential)
Department of Military Veterans Bursary Application Procedures
- ID document (certified copy)
- Military Veterans ID Document (certified copy) or Death Certificate if deceased (certified copy)
- Parent/ Guardian ID Document (certified copy) if you are not a Military Veteran
- If your last name is different from the military veterans the last name, include an affidavit stating the reason why
- Military Veteran/ Guardian proof of income (latest payslip if employed/ affidavit if unemployed)
- Military Veteran/Guardian’s latest 3 months bank statement
- Statement of results/ latest school report (certified copy)
- Proof of acceptance/ registration to study at an institution next year
- Proof of residence (original document)
