About the DALRRD: The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform (DRDLR), established in 2009, is a department of the South African government. The Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform is responsible for the department. The DRDLR are responsible for land reform; deeds registration; cadastral surveying and topographic mapping. The Department’s mission is to initiate, as well as facilitate, coordinate and implement rural development programmes.

DALRRD Bursary Application Requirements 2025/2026
Undergraduate students:
- South African citizen
- Completed Matric
- Studying or intend on studying within one of the aforementioned fields of study
- Studying or intend on studying at a recognised South African tertiary institution
- Bioresource Engineering & Bachelor of Veterinary Science students: must have achieved a minimum of level 6 (70–79%) for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric National Senior Certificate
- Animal Science & Entomology & Food Science & Plant Pathology & Viticulture and Oenology students: must have achieved a minimum of level 5 (60–69%) for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric National Senior Certificate
- Land Surveying/ Geomatics & Geo-Informatics/ Geographic Information Science Town/ Urban and Regional Planning students: must have achieved a minimum of level 4 (50–59%) for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric National Senior Certificate
- Food Technology & Surveying/ Cartography & Town and Regional Planning students: must have achieved a minimum of level 4 (50–59%) for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric National Senior Certificate
- Previously disadvantaged or impoverished
- From a poverty-stricken or rural community
- People with disabilities are encouraged to apply
- NOT a staff member of the department
Postgraduate students:

Undergraduate students:
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate (certified copy)
- Full academic record (certified copy)
- Qualification/ certificates (certified copies)
- University acceptance letter (on tertiary letterhead)
- Parents/ Guardians ID documents (certified copies)
- Parents/ Guardians proof of income (latest palyslips if employed, proof of unemployment from Department of Labour if unemployed, SASSA confirmation letter if applicable, death certificates if applicable)
(*Please note: if you have not yet received your Matric final results or University acceptance letter, you may apply without it and submit the outstanding documents as soon as received).
Postgraduate students:
