About the Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI): Formed by Yoshiomi Tamai after losing her mother in a car accident, Ashinaga has been extending emotional care and financial support to youth worldwide who have lost one or both of their parents. The Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) was established in 2014. Since its inception, AAI has lent its support to more than 110,000 orphaned students. The company aims to provide financial assistance to deserving and meritorious students to pursue undergraduate degree studies in foreign universities.

AAI is inviting students to participate in the Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) Leadership Programme for the upcoming academic year. AAI provides scholarships to students for studying in foreign universities. The program mainly aims at students residing in Sub-Saharan African countries who have lost one or both parents. Shortlisted students must return to Sub-Saharan Africa to participate actively in development, change, and innovation.

Details of Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) Leadership Programme Application 2025/2026

The program can be divided into three stages:

  1. Preparation and Study Camp: Shortlisted students will be required to attend a study camp in Senegal/ Uganda, where assistance will be provided to students to prepare them for studying abroad. University application (to Europe, Japan, the USA, and the United Kingdom), leadership development, and career planning are also included in the camp.The Preparatory Camp is scheduled to occur from April to June 2025, aimed at equipping students with the necessary skills to navigate the social, cultural, and academic variances they may face during their overseas studies. Following the camp, students are expected to commence their university journey in August or September 2025.
  2. During University: The program will provide complete financial assistance while studying abroad. The students must participate in internships (in their home country / Sub-Saharan Africa) and leadership development programs held by Ashinaga.
  3. After Graduation: The candidates have to return to their home country / Sub-Saharan Africa and contribute to Africa for a minimum duration of a year.

Eligibility Criteria for Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) Leadership Programme Application for 2025

The following eligibility criteria need to be met for the applicants to be considered eligible for the Leadership Programme

  • The applicant must have been born after 1st September 2001 and lost one or both of their parents.
  • The candidate can be a citizen of any of the following countries mentioned on the official website of Ashinaga.
  • Applicants must have citizenship and have completed/are completing high school in one of the following countries:
    Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, CAR,
Cameroon, Chad, Comoros, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, DRC,  Ethiopia,  Equatorial Guinea,  Eritrea, Gabon, Ghana,  Guinea Bissau,  Guinea Conakry,  Kenya, Kingdom of eSwatini, Lesotho, Liberia,  Madagascar,  Malawi,  Mali, Mauritania,  Mauritius,  Mozambique,  Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Republic of Congo,  Rwanda,  São Tomé and Príncipe,  Senegal,  Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Seychelles, Sudan, Tanzania, The Gambia, Togo, Uganda,  Zambia and Zimbabwe.
  • The applying candidate must have completed secondary school and should have received the results. It would be best if you were in the top 10 of your class
  • The candidate must wish to study abroad to pursue their undergraduate degree
  • The applicant must require financial assistance.
  • The candidate must be fluent in French, English, and Portuguese should have no dependents as well as must be in good health.
  • The applying candidate has to participate in the Preparation and Study Camp and have to return and work at their home country/ Sub-Saharan country

How To Apply for Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) Leadership Programme 2025

To apply for the Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) Leadership Programme, follow these steps:

Step 1: Registration Visit the AAI Leadership Registration page and complete the registration process. Click here to access the page.

Ensure you submit clear copies of the following mandatory supporting documents:

  • ID Card / Passport / Birth certificate
  • Most recent High School Term Report/Transcript
  • Final High School Examination Results Certificate (if applicable)

Step 2: Application Form Eligible students, as determined by Ashinaga, will receive an email containing the application form approximately one month after registration. If you don’t receive the email, you were not invited to apply (check your spam or junk box).

If invited to apply, submit clear copies of the following mandatory supporting documents:

  • A copy of your ID document or Passport or Birth certificate
  • A copy of your birth certificate
  • Passport-style Photograph
  • All term reports or secondary school transcripts from the past 2 years
  • Final secondary school certificate (with results for each subject) (If receiving examination results in February 2023, submit the certificate as soon as possible)
  • Recommendation letter from a school teacher or principal (including contact information and must be stamped or signed)
  • Academic transcripts or official university results (if applicable)
  • Certificates of extracurricular activities, training courses, jobs, or other commitments (if applicable)
  • Death certificate of deceased parent/parents or other official documentation proving parents’ death or orphan status

For registration, the closing date is 19 January 2025 at 12:00 GMT (for registration – step 1 of the application)

For completion of the application, it is 23 January 2025 at 23:59 GMT (for completion of your application – step 2 of the application).

It is essential to apply within the given date as otherwise, it can result in the rejection of the candidature.
