List of Subjects Offered at Alma Mater International School Krugersdorp
Option 1 (One Year A-Level Course)
A-Levels are recognised worldwide as the premier university entrance qualification. A-Level students can expect to be treated as befits their maturity and status. They will need a high measure of self-discipline to plan and execute effective work schedules.
Duration: One year
Subjects (Choose any three): English, Afrikaans, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Computer Sciences, Art and Design.
Entrance requirements:
- Ages between 17 and 19.
- IEB, NSC applicants a Matric with Exemption. With a minimum of a “B” symbol in the subject, the applicant wants to pursue an A level.
- IGCSE applicants are required to have obtained a “B” symbol in the subject they want to pursue on A-Level.
- AS Level applicants are required to have obtained a minimum of “C” symbol in the subject they want to pursue on A-Level.
option 2 (Two Year A Level Course)
Although completed in the Grade 12 year, it is essentially a Post Matric qualification. The A-Level experience at Alma Mater is a challenging one that places special emphasis on the development of responsibility, self-discipline and independence.
Duration: Two years
Subjects (choose a minimum of two and a maximum of three): All subjects available in our subject choice form.
Entrance requirements:
- Ages between 16 and 18.
- IEB applicants Grade 10 with a minimum of six subjects: Subjects to be done on A-Level must be “A” symbols. Remaining subjects a minimum of a “B” symbol.
- CAPS (National Curriculum) applicants Grade 10 with a minimum of six subjects: Subjects to be done on A-Level must be “A” symbols. Remaining subjects a minimum of a “B” symbol.
- IGCSE applicants with a minimum of six subjects: Applicants are required to have obtained an “A” or “B” symbol in the subject they want to pursue on A-Level. Remaining subjects a minimum of a “C” symbol.
- A1 examinations can only be written in May/June of the A2 year.
Option 3 (Two Year AS Level Course)
Completed at the end of the Grade 12 year, it is an international qualification accepted by Higher Education South Africa and by local universities. Many foreign universities also accept AS Levels. It is equivalent to the NSC Matric with Exemption.
Duration: Two years
Subjects (Choose a minimum of six): English, Afrikaans, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Accounting, Design and Technology, Art and Design, Business Studies, Economics, Computer Science and Geography.
