How UNISA Invigilator App Works (Navigation guidelines for the Invigilation App)

It has come to our attention that some students are confused about how exactly to navigate their invigilated online examinations via the Invigilator app. The following are pertinent points to remember:

  1. Students can establish whether or not their module is invigilated by the Invigilator app, by clicking on The Invigilator (invigilatorapp.herokuapp.com). If none of a student’s modules is invigilated, then s/he will not be able to register on the Invigilator App.
  2. It is important that students download and register on the Invigilator app a day before their examinations. The Invigilator app is available on the Google Play store, the Apple app store and Huawei Gallery. This provides an opportunity to resolve any challenges associated with registration prior to the examinations.
  3. Watch the training videos https://youtu.be/rJTX8V3att0, and go through the mock examination on page 8 of the Invigilator app student guidelines at Invigilator app student guidelines.  This is helpful for determining what will be expected on the day of the examination.
  4. On the day of the examination:

Take-home examination:

a) Students utilising one device (cell phone):

    1. Start by opening the Invigilator app.
    2. Access the QR code and scan from the module sites. Module lecturers will make available the QR codes on the module sites one day before the examination.
    3. The QR code is available for activation 15 minutes before and after the examination.
    4. Having activated the QR code, click on “access LMS” on the top right of the app.
    5. Access the myExams web page at  https://myexams.unisa.ac.za/portal/, click on the applicable module, then log in and access the question paper.
    6. Complete the exercises, as prompted by the Invigilator App.
    7. Having completed the invigilation, scan and upload the answer script on myExams at  https://myexams.unisa.ac.za/portal/.
    8. Note that answer scripts from the Invigilator App are not accepted. The invigilation completes as the assessment duration ends.
    9. Students have ONE hour thereafter, to submit their answer scripts on myExams.

b) Students utilising two devices (laptop and cell phone):

    1.  Access the question paper on the myExams home page platform at https://myexams.unisa.ac.za/portal/, click on the module, log in and access the question paper.
    2. Access the QR code and scan either via the examination question paper or the module site.
    3. The QR code will be available for activation 15 minutes before and after the examination.
    4. Complete the exercises, as prompted by the Invigilator app.
    5. Having completed the invigilation, scan and upload the answer script on myExams at  https://myexams.unisa.ac.za/portal/.
    6. Note that answer scripts from the Invigilator app are not accepted. The invigilation completes as the assessment duration ends.
    7. Students have ONE hour thereafter, to submit their answer scripts on myExams.

MCQ examinations

a) Students utilising one device (cell phone):

    1. Start by opening the Invigilator app.
    2. Access the QR code and scan from the module site. Module lecturers will make available the QR codes on the module sites one day before the examination.
    3. The QR code is available for activation 30 minutes after the commencement of the examinations.
    4. Having activated the QR code, click on “access LMS” on the top right of the app.
    5. Access the myExams platform at https://myexams.unisa.ac.za/portal/, click on the applicable module, then log in and access the MCQ.
    6. Save and submit the MCQ responses on myExams.
    7. Complete the exercises, as prompted by the Invigilator app.

b) Students utilising two devices (laptop and cell phone):

    1. Access the MCQ on the myExams home page platform at https://myexams.unisa.ac.za/portal/, click on the applicable module, then log in and access the question paper.
    2. Access the QR codes and scan either through the examination question paper or the module site. Module lecturers will make available the QR codes on the module sites one day before the examination.
    3. The QR code is available for activation 30 minutes after the commencement of the examinations.
    4. Save and submit the MCQ responses on myExams.
    5. Complete the exercises, as prompted by the Invigilator app.

c) MCQs with two sessions.

    1. Scan the same QR code for your first and second session.
    2. Use the same OTP received from the Invigilator app.
  1. Important to also note:
    1. Any challenges experienced in using the Invigilator app must be logged via WhatsApp on 073 505 8273. Alternatively, call 080 000 1870 for myExams-related enquiries. Continue to focus on the examinations and the question paper.
    2. Students who have not scanned their QR within the 30 minutes window will receive an error message and will not be invigilated. Send a message via WhatsApp on 073 505 8273 and continue with the examinations.
    3. Students whose modules are not invigilated, will also receive an error message when trying to register. Check whether a module is invigilated by clicking on The Invigilator (invigilatorapp.herokuapp.com)
    4. Students who have tried to register on the Invigilator app after determining that their modules are invigilated, and were unsuccessful, must log their request to be added on the Invigilator WhatsApp line at 073 505 8273.
